When I was a kid, I loved to play mad scientist. I even had a "laboratory" (area in the garage) where I'd mix together every household chemical I could find. Although in theory I've grown up, my love of combining chemicals has survived in the form of cocktail mixing (with the added bonus that they are safe-ish to consume!)
One of the most science-y ingredients to appear in cocktails are bitters, a (formerly) mysterious and potent liquid to be added in a carefully measured number drops. When I was gifted a DIY bitters kit, I learned how simple and straightforward it is to make your own bitters at home!
