The Deconstructed PBJ

I love the peanut butter & jelly sandwich. So simple. So classic. I had one every day for lunch as a kid and somehow never got tired of them. To this day, I always stock the supplies necessary to whip up this classic snack.

For some reason, making diagrams of food is something I repeatedly come back to. This drawing, which I did during architecture school, is one of my earliest examples. As you can see, there are many potential options for filling, but I definitely left out plenty: various nut butters, creamy vs crunchy, jams, marshmallows... to say nothing of the choice of bread (I couldn't care less for white bread.)

Honestly the classic is pretty hard to beat. To me this means two un-toasted pieces of whole wheat bread, grape jam or jelly, and creamy peanut butter. Of course, I've dabbled in variations, and I'm always open to new possibilities.
